I have 30+ years experience of being in bands and recording in studios, giving me unique insight into the way recording studios work and collect knowledge on how musicians can benefit.
I play bass guitar, rhythm guitar, drums and sing. My most famous recording is bass guitar and backing vocals for Tim Holehouse, on his album 'Year'.
I started the Studio in April 2023 as I wanted to work with artists and bands, impart my knowledge and assist in their creative process.

RECORDING & PRODUCTION
“Recording my new album at Studio 8830 with James Harvey was an absolute pleasure. Having been a professional musician for 20 years and recorded 25 albums my standards are very high for what I expect from an album. James not only met those but with his helpful suggestions on production ideas really made the songs shine! Skilled recording engineer who not only knows his stuff, but is also there to guide the creative process. Would highly recommend recording your next record at Studio 8830!”

A HAPPY PLACE
“Recording at Studio 8830 is just a joy. It's not just a place for work, but somewhere you can really relax into the process - an absolute bonus when it comes to creativity. James, as both a producer and host, is incredibly kind and supportive with an ability to turn your dreams into reality with exceptional skill and speed. I'd highly recommend Studio 8830 to anyone - whether it's your first or thirtieth time around the block.”

WELCOMING & CREATIVE
“I have worked with Studio 8830 on a number of soundtracks to accompany poetry videos and have been delighted every time with the quality of the recording and James' excellent sound design. The studio is really welcoming and friendly, with a very creative, collaborative approach, resulting in a very professional service. I couldn't recommend them highly enough for any voice recording projects.”

TRULY IMMERSIVE, PRODUCTIVE,
VALUE FOR MONEY EXPERIENCE
“Bizarrely, for someone who’s been writing songs since the age of 17 (if you flip those numerals, that’s where I am now!) I’d never been in a studio before 8830, I’d only ever recorded at home. So at first it was a bit like going to the barber’s for the first time: a little bit of trepidation and wondering what it was going to look like afterwards. But working with James was a joy. Not only does he have a really good and original setup (which completely redefines the concept of home recording), he also possesses patience in abundance (take a sandwich, folks, you’re going to need it). I always find that working with other people tends to generate ideas that have never occurred to me before. And so it was here. His encouragement and helpful suggestions made the song what it now is, giving me the different sound I was after. All in all, a truly immersive, productive, value for money experience. If you want to record in a relaxed, no pressure atmosphere with an engineer who genuinely loves making music, Studio 8830 is the place for you.”
